Description
CALENDAR. This calendar from January 2005 to February 2006 is now dated but its value resides as a keepsake for the fourteen pictures and short biographies of prominent Hispanic San Antonians who grew up in the Prospect Hill area of West San Antonio, one of the first communities to be built West of the downtown in the early years of the 20th century. The area increasingly became a neighborhood of Mexican-American families buying their first homes. The calendar is sponsored by American Sunrise, A non-profit Cisneros Communities Venture, whose goal is to renovate the physical stock of housing in Prospect Hill, to assist new families to become homeowners, and to provide the support services for families and children that will enable them to take their places in American society. Their focus is ” one square mile” bounded by Colorado Street on the East, Martin Street on the North, Zarzamora Street on the West, and Guadalupe Street on the South. The San Antonians featured are Hope Andrade,Lionel Sosa, Charles Barrett, Dr. Ricardo Romo, Hector Davila, Henry Cisneros, Tessa Martinez Pollack, Dr. Fernando Guerra,Alex Briseño,Jesse Treviño,The Cortez Brothers-Ruben, George and David, Sylvia Romo,Dr. Charles Briseño, and Isaac Ayala.
