This community was under French and Spanish rule and in the 18th century and  was a trade hub between the well-supplied settlers and the isolated Spaniards and Indians.This is the first thorough study of its society and economy. It was founded in 1714 , five years before New Orleans, and started as a creole community, (American born of French Descent. It came under Spanish control from 1766 to 1804. Has some maps and various charts. 6 x 9 size.
