The author provides a new perspective to the history of New Mexico in that names and dates are not important. He states that relative time and cause and effect are the important keys to making sense of history. He asserts that history is the story of human beings, who feel sadness, happiness and pain. This book is divided into five sections: The period before Europeans arrived; the Spanish Colonial Period; Mexican Independence; the Terrirtorial Period; and finally the statehood period which began in 1912 and continues today.
