Palmito Ranch, near Brownsville, in deep South Texas was the scene of the last land battle of the Civil War, being fought after the surrender at Appomattox, because the message had not filtered down that the war had ended. A multidisciplinary team was dispatched to the site by the Texas Historical Commission to study, document, and preserve this unique history site. The place is also a wildlife refuge and historical markers tell the story of this famous encounter. This book reflects the work of the team. Illustrated with b&w and color photos and maps. Six x 9 size.
