Description

In the 1920s, Mexico suffered cruel oppression under the ruthless anticlerical government of Plutarco Elias Calles.  United Sates President Woodrow Wilson indirectly aided and abetted many atrocities. The Mexican government began a persecution of the Catholic Church that led to an uprising of the ordinary people called the Cristero War for the battle cry of the people, “Viva Cristo  Rey.” Many priest and young catholic laymen, in addition to innocent civilians were martyred. This was called ” The Silent War,” as Mexico tried to suppress it initially from their history books. The US ultimately helped broker a peace.
